Interestingly, the models are mostly done by Rick 'Pneumatic81' Knox, who was the guy hired to do the models for this new 'Legacy' game. With a little.ini file editing and surfing around the net, you can get a pretty good set of other models. For example, I'd modded together half a dozen that look pretty good on my site. Real easy to put in the game, just unzip the folder, and edit the sfc.ini file to point at the new 3d models for a given ship.

Real easy to put in the game, just unzip the folder, and edit the sfc.ini file to point at the new 3d models for a given ship. (The D2 mod above has its own installer). Just finished the first mission and here are some thoughts.First thing I did was program my n52 and midway through I had to minimize to make a few changes.Make sure you read the readme file because there are a few control changes that were made after the manual was printed.WASD is a pain to turn your ship.
I was getting my ass handed to me by 3 Birds of Prey till I figured out how to best attack and allocate more power to weapons and less to engines. I survived and beat the mission. The things that I really don't like are:No Quicksave. I have to play the entire mission before I can save. Hopefully a future patch will add it.I think the game area is wider than it is taller. It seemed like it took forever to make a 'loop' in the Enterprise and the other ship. I did read the manual and know that larger ships are less maneuverable even with full power allocation to engines.
This is probably more a problem with using WASD though. No Screenshot either. I looked in the config hoping there would be a line like ballowscreenshot=0 like Oblivion had that I could edit but I didn't see it. I may try adding it to see if that helps.I noticed a graphical glitch as well. At times I would see a straight line across the screen while rotating the camera. I'm running at 1680x1050 with graphics set to high.I had to create my own desktop shortcut as well. Didn't even ask me if I wanted to create one while installing.I swear that the actor whose voice says 'altering power' or whatever is the same one who did a lot of the voices in Oblivion's such as Thoronir (Unfriendly Competition Quest in the Imperial City) Considering Bethesda is the publisher, this doesn't surprise me.I am really enjoying it though.
Combat can use a little tweaking but that is more of a control issue. There should be some tweaks available later on as more people play.I'd love to know from someone who has a 360 controller and is using it for the PC version if it is easier to play. If so, I'll have to get one. Could not resist and picked it up after work.
Only just entered skirmish to take screen shots and figure the controls.First shot.when I did not even know how to fly. This was a second attempt after dinner and looking at the controls while eating.A couple of the ship selection screen for skirmishes.I picked the Next Generation ships and limited to 2 players.Really pretty.OMG I won! That was without firing a shot, I have to look at the instrutions again to figure out how to enable weapons.lolMy PC is running it max settings at 1680x1050 without a problem so far. And ship control with WASD seems fine to me, but I have to figure out the rest and configure to what makes sense. Nice effects in the graphics, WARP is really cool, reminded me of the first movie. I wish I would have gotten some shots of ships exploding, but I was trying to fire weapons while watching the rest of my ships destroy the enemy.
I think I will be happy with the game, but still too early and I won't enter Campaign mode until I figure out how to fly, I was surprised by no tutorial mode. I was playing in campaign mode I think that the reason I was complaining about the WASD controls is because the Enterprise generation ships just suck at manuevering. I'll give skirmish mode a try to see if I'm right. I lost the second mission twice and quit frustrated.
I can't turn fast enough and the damn romulans just keep gang banging my two ships with their many smaller ones faster than I can destroy them. They turn faster too. I think I'm going to start the game over in an easier difficulty than 'Captain' (default one I think) and buy a third ship that is more maneuverable.I'm going to look into editing my config tomorrow too.
Post your results if you find fixes. All bitching aside, the game is absolutely beautiful adn I love the battles. Now I think I understand the control complaints, but it is not the WASD, for me, it is keeping track of the other keys too. I can see how in combat the 360 controller and its stick would be more natural due to the 3d space. I might just go out and buy a wired 360 control tomorrow for this game to see how it works.I just played the first campaign mission, was happy some tutorial tips were there, nothing at all like Starfleet Command.this is more X Wing with capitol ships.
It is actually refreshing and the game is just drop dead gorgous.Archers Ship.your first in the Campaign. Click to expand.Don't use full impulse speed in a dogfight. Slow to quarter or half speed; it cuts your turning circle down smaller. Also, remember that many ships don't have to keep the enemy in front of them. Even some of the oldest ones have aft-firing weapons. If you keep turning and the enemy stays in your side arc, you're screwing yourself because that's valuable time where you're not able to shoot at him.
Make a head-on pass with phasers blasting, swivel your view as he passes and wait a few seconds for him to enter your rear gunnery arc, then fire again.I'm done for the night. I've spent several hours trying to use the captured Klingon Bird of Prey to spy on a fortified system. There's one objective I can't complete: 'Find and scan three targets.' But not just any targets. They have to be 'of interest.' I've done two - a superweapon and a mining station.
And I've tried almost everything else, including what appears to be the Klingon flagship (the radial menu for F doesn't even come up). Nothing works.
Why is everyone bashing SFC III so much? I LOVE SFCIII, i think it is one of the best Star Trek games ever, i of course play Bridge Commander, but i like the ship to ship space sim combat of SFCIII better than BC. I didnt really like SFC/SFCII/SFC OP very much though, and i really didnt like Armada/ArmadaII very much either, to much managment for me.At first when i got the game i hated it, i thought it was horrible.
But once i sat down and played it for a few hours i love it now! I think it is one of the best star trek games ever, though i wish the controls were editable in game.I am comming to realize that my Ati x700 Pro sucks! I really need a new graphics card for my computer. I have to run it at 1024/786 for everything to be high. It took me about 4 hours to get the hang of the interface which was sometimes frustrating. However, once I got the hang of that, I had an awesome time.
I played the first 2 single player missions which were a blast, and I'm not a fan of Enterprise so that's cool. I played a couple hours of skirmish as all the different races. I think Klingons have the best modelled and most detailed ships. The Vor'cha class ships kick ass. Romulans are also pretty fun, especially the large battlecruisers like the D'Derrix.

Also, the Borg are wicked and that tactical fusion borg cube beats the shit out of my fleets. Also, once it is installed, you do not need the DVD in the drive.
